U.S. Navy JAG Corps Recruiting

• Student Program (SP) – The Navy JAG Corps SP permits law students to receive a professional recommendation while attending law school, and become an officer candidate following medical screening and background checks. Upon graduation and successful completion of a bar examination, the officer candidate will earn their commission at the Navy officer training course, and commission as lieutenants (junior grade). This is our largest source of new attorneys for the Navy JAG Corps.
• Direct Appointment (DA) – The Navy JAG Corps DA permits licensed attorneys to be professionally recommended and become officer candidates. Upon successful completion of officer candidate training, DA applicants will earn their commission as lieutenant (junior grade) in the Navy JAG Corps.

Internship/Externship

• Internship – The Navy JAG Corps internship program is offered in the summer each year, for either 8 or 10 weeks. This unpaid internship is available to any law student who has completed at least one full year of academic study at an ABA Accredited law school.
• Externship – The Navy JAG Corps externship program is offered during the academic year, in a part-time status.

NOTE: This application is NOT for applying to the Navy JAG Reserves, the Law Education Program (LEP), nor the In-Service Procurement Program (IPP).
